01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A long-cherished signature here is the Ogikubo anpan, a fluffy round stuffed generously with house-made chunky tsubuan sweet bean paste crafted from Hokkaido azuki beans. Cooked with restrained sweetness to let the natural aroma of the red beans lead, it is a reassuring treat that slots easily into morning breakfasts or afternoon snacks.

The savoury side of the counter is equally varied. A standout is the vegetable-packed egg sandwich, whose appeal hinges on its house-made anchovy mayonnaise. Thick slices of boiled egg, tomato, and lettuce are tucked into soft bread for a satisfying handful well suited to lunch. Shelves also feature thoughtfully seasoned bakes such as shio-koji chicken and prawn banh mi, as well as seasonal tartines loaded with fresh toppings.

Among the sweet breads and bakes, unique creations catch the eye, from crisp tarts pairing roasted almond cream with Japanese apples to a savoury-sweet parmesan melonpan. From 10:00, the bakery also turns out house smoothies blending fruit such as banana or berries with organic unadjusted soy milk—a refreshing takeaway drink to accompany a bag of pastries.

Located in Ogikubo 5-chome in Suginami Ward, the compact shop accommodates just a few customers at a time and operates exclusively for takeaway, with no dine-in seating. It opens from 9:00 in the morning until 19:30, and payments can be settled via PayPay.
